I hope they elect a pope soon, or I'm not going to get ANYTHING done this week during after-lunch recess.

Yesterday was pretty cool -- watching the cardinals take the oath of secrecy in Latin. 

You got to hear all their native accents.

New York City Cardinal Dolan sounded like, "Yo Adrienne, ego Timothy Cardinalis Dolan. Spondeo, volveo, et juro."

We complained a lot, like the children of Israel in the desert, about the lack of "meat" on the live video feed.  Chimney chimney chimney boring.  

So God sent us quail.  I mean, seagull.

Hello, birdie.

Oh wait, it's gone now.

Back to the chimney.

I don't have a dog in the who's-going-to-be-pope fight, actually, although I kind of hope they continue to steer clear of Italian cardinals for the next couple of hundred years.  And French cardinals, too.  Those guys are trouble.

Secretly, though, I would like the new pope-name to be Leo.  That would make things kind of exciting around here.  We might have to have cake.

We're having cake anyway! Habemus Papam!

We too spent all afternoon watching, from 1:00 on. The seagull entertained us immensely. Julia claims that at one moment, when I was glancing away, another seagull took the place of the first one.

Oh, yeah, you're further east than me :) I was thinking, "afternoon?! All the excitement was over by the afternoon!" But of course, I'm on the west coast.

My story: I was working in the living room, and trying to get my daughter to "finish your papal conclave work before they finish their conclave - come on!!" when my always-into-something toddler came in and turned on the radio, and we heard BELLS! (Good timing, Baby Trouble.) So then we went to watch EWTN on the computer, and got to wait through the interminable interval between the smoke and bells and the appearance of our new Holy Father on the balcony. (Good time to finish assembling conclave work, or color a Vatican flag, LOL.) Hurrah!

We're having cake, too :)
