I've always thought that the weaned child metaphor was very apt. A nursing child, the moment he sits on his mother's lap, is demanding to nurse -- fussing, squirming, rooting. Mom is a food source and needs to provide now! The older, weaned child will crawl up onto Mom's lap, not to satisfy hunger, but just to cuddle and sit quietly. This, of course, is not always, the case, but it's the image that comes to me whenever I hear this verse.
