We don't have a school room in our home. When the children were very little we had a room we used as a school room. But since kindergarten we haven't had one. Partially because we didn't have a room at that time that we could dedicate to homeschooling alone.

Now, however, we do school in the dining room (where the bookshelves are and the table), the living room (where the comfy couches are for lounging to read), and the breakfast room (where Mom is).

The neighbor down the street has a school room and it has worked out very well for them. Certainly there's no pretend toaster in the school room, but there is a real one that they use downstairs in the kitchen.

I think the only potential problem with having a school room is that someone might begin to isolate school from the rest of life.
