We were picking up the living room and I was humming to myself for no reason. Oscar asked "What's that song?"
I said, "Oh, uh, it's from a musical called Annie Get Your Gun." I sang out loud, "Anything you can do I can do better, I can do anything better than you."
"I like it," he said. "Can you teach me?"
"Well, here, let me see," I said, and with a few clicks brought up a clip. We watched it and the children were highly amused.
Of course you know where this leads.
Right now all three of my children are running around having musical shrieking contests.
On a similar vein, it is just not fair when the arts section on Morning Edition includes clips from some well-known musical. They stick in my head all day.
I learned that today is the anniversary of the premiere of the Music Man (my all-time favorite, having spent formative years in Iowa).
If you wanted to get them into more of a Christmas mode, there is always We Need a Little Christmas from Mame...

Oh, that's a fun song.
I admit it, I do love show tunes. My mom used to sing "A Bushel And A Peck" to me (from Guys and Dolls) when I was a little thing. :-)
