Your comment about the skies being a relatively static natural feature made me remember encountering the night sky in Australia. That experience was probably my biggest shock of the whole time away. I would say culture shock, but really it was 'I could be on another planet or in a parallel universe right now because everything is mostly the same except the sky which is just wrong' shock. Henceforth, I could call it feature shock.

I've never seen the night sky in the Southern Hemisphere -- but I imagine that could be a similar sort of shock. Good catch.
